Eat This, Not That

Remember the popular magazine articles “Eat This Not That?”  I think someone even came out with a book by the same name last year.  Well, here’s my version…with bonus points!

The idea is to eat 

  • More wholesome ingredients
  • Less processed foods
  • Less sugar and carbohydrates
  • More veggies

Here’s how to do it:

INSTEAD OF THIS…

EAT THIS

Hamburger

Hamburger with organic meat

Organic burger with a lettuce wrap instead of bun.

Juice

Use frozen fruit to make a fresh smoothie

Add whey or hemp protein to your smoothie

Candy bar

Dark chocolate

At least 70% dark chocolate

Conventional skim milk

Organic whole milk

Almond milk (extra, extra bonus = raw, unpasteurized milk!)

Iodized salt

Sea salt

Pink or grey salt

Canola oil

Olive oil

Coconut oil

Pasta

Rice noodles

No noodles or spaghetti squash

Egg and bacon breakfast taco

On corn tortilla instead of flour

Add avocado and salsa

White sugar

Turbinado sugar or honey

Stevia drops

Ice Cream

Yogurt

Full-fat plain yogurt with sliced fruit, nut butter, or stevia

PB&J

On sprouted grain bread

Organic peanut butter or almond butter and fresh banana slices instead of jelly

Doritos / Cheetos

“Pirate Booty”

Air-popped popcorn or organic blue corn chips with sea salt
